VIDEO: DD/MM/YYYY – “777″ (Live)

Listening to Toronto math rock/dance punk/noise experimentalists DD/MM/YYYY is like listening to a bunch of hyperactive ADD kids on crack taking mushrooms, if those kids could, well, actually play instruments. And, in this case, by play I mean with skill and superior talent, even if it’s seemingly always at a spastic, whirlwind pace that threatens to fly off the rails at any moment. It’s both chaotic and cathartic, a frenzied rampage of stuttering syncopation and flailing appendages that feels like the soundtrack behind some maddening, yet oddly liberating psychedelic acid chase sequence. It’s the feeling of being on the brink, of staring down a winding precipice while scrambling along at top speed, never quite certain where that next turn is going to lead—down into the jagged ruins below or straight into the stratosphere.

If you haven’t the slightest clue of what it is that I’m talking about, check out the video above. If you still don’t know, close your eyes and use your imagination. Still at a loss? Take some fucking drugs. After that, I can’t really help you. Good luck with life or whatever it is that you do.
