Damn if the Sword isn’t back. When drummer Trivett Wingo left the sludge metal masters in October, forcing the band to cancel their U.S. and European tours in support of their ferocious third LP, Warp Riders, I thought it would be quite some time before the band would regroup and get back on the road. Not because a replacement would be all that difficult to find—any number of session drummers could be called in to fill the role—but Wingo seemed to provide such an essential core element to the group’s sound that I figured the remaining members would, I don’t know, take some time to reflect or something before moving on.
Lucky for us, the rest of the band decided that the best way to move forward is to get back on the horse, so to speak. So here we are, not even two months later, and the Sword are already back in town ready to bring the thunder. Get ready for a night of excruciatingly loud, pulverizing stoner riffs and jaw dropping twin guitar solos. The Sword is indeed back. Let the awesomeness commence.
