Of the Vine

Of the Vine EP6. Of the Vine – Of the Vine
Chances are you haven’t heard of Of the Vine. I’ll admit that as of two weeks ago, I hadn’t either. But in that time, they’ve become something of an obsession of mine. Maybe it’s because the music on their sophomore EP goes so perfectly with our current bout of frosty weather — haunting and spectral post-rock with expansive gray sky guitars and world weary piano that combine to create a serene atmosphere of wintry isolation. It’s not all just shimmering melodies and fragile elegance, though; after absorbing each of the EPs five songs it’s clear the band is no stranger to muscular grooves and frantic rock bombast. Of the Vine is a case study in tension and dynamics, a work that is deliberately paced and yet constantly in flux, rising and falling like blustery winter winds.
