With such a wealth of local bands performing for Nophest 2011, there is no shortage of excellent shows this week, any one of which could rightfully make a case for this here top spot. The Ohmpark and Chad Radford-curated shows, occurring simultaneously on Thursday night, both feature stellar lineups, and Saturday night’s TRICIL-curated show at the Eastside Lounge is as good a local showcase for experimental electronic music as you’ll see this year. But honestly I feel that I gave Nophest enough voice and props in the preview I posted last week. For this reason, I want to focus for a minute on a different local celebration.
For the uninitiated, Purge ATL is about so much more than music — theirs is a much more comprehensive look into Atlanta life and culture, delivered from a variety of unique perspectives. In their single year of existence, they have become one of my favorite reads, and a constant source of inspiration. In celebration of their one-year anniversary, Purge ATL decided to throw themselves a nice little fiesta this Sunday night at the Earl, which, lucky for us, just happens to be headlined by Latest Disgrace faves All Night Drug Prowling Wolves. So while Nophest will likely garner all the attention this week, you would do well to take advantage of the opportunity to both catch Tom Cheshire and his gruff punk crew live and give a shout-out to an up-and-coming Atlanta publication that’s actually worth your eyes and ears.
