If you’ve been lagging on your 2011 resolution to go out and see more local bands play, this is a great week to get back on track before 2012 rolls in and you’ve got a whole new set of promises and distractions to contend with. Looking down the list, it looks like 529 is the place to be this week with a strong lineup of shows including headlining slots from the Long Shadows, A. Grimes and Small Reactions. Details are below.
But if you’re busy this week and you’ve only got time to make it to one show, then you definitely don’t want to miss Jungol’s final performance of the year at the Masquerade. Over the past couple of years, the band has proven itself to be one of Atlanta’s most reliable and dynamic live acts with a spacious, prog-influenced rock approach that can be both technically complex and emotionally powerful. In fact, the band handles that dichotomy as effortlessly as anyone in this town, and their strong turnouts are only proof of the infectious energy they give off while onstage. Recently, the group announced that original guitarist (and frequent Dark Room collaborator) Andres Miller was back in the band, which should only further enhance their already expansive sound. With a stellar cast of support that includes soulful pop purveyors, Jack of Hearts, and electro dance fusionists, Fishhawk, you really have no excuse to miss out.
