Even if you’re not into Fucked Up’s artful brand of punk and hardcore, the experience alone should be enough to drag you out to the Earl on Wednesday night. Unfettered chaos. All hell breaking loose. The sights and sounds of bodies hurling themselves violently at one another, all set to scorching guitars and shout-along vocals. While most bands pay lip service to fans at their shows, few bands make their audience the centerpiece of their performance as Fucked Up does. Sure, when the amps fire up all eyes turn to singer Damian Abraham, aka Pink Eyes, but by the end of the night, the crowd will have spent as much time spitting and screaming into the microphone as he has. It would take an act of willful disengagement not to get dragged in at some point into the fray. And that’s all without dragging Nashville fuzz rockers, JEFF the Brotherhood, and Atlanta noise mongers, HAWKS, into the equation, both of whom know a thing or two about stirring shit up and setting pulses raging. If you’re the type of concertgoer who likes to sit quietly in the back meekly nodding your approval, stay far away from this show. If, on the other hand, you aren’t afraid of a little blood or the occasional boot to the head, and you like a healthy dose of visceral in your music, this is one show you won’t want to miss.
