As good as those last two Maserati albums sounded, the group is unquestionably better live than they are on record. The stratospheric guitars climb higher and push further, the distortion-fueled bombast packs a greater whallop. In many ways, the band’s sweeping instrumental post-rock is music made for marveling — at the beauty, the power and finesse, at the surging grace and robotic precision. There are any number of bands in the world that can sweep you off your feet on the strength of their emotionally riveting performances. Likewise, there are an equal number of groups that will leave you slack-jawed in amazement at their incredible skill and technical prowess. Maserati, however, are one of those rare acts that can do both. Don’t miss out.
