Hey ATL, do you fell blessed? ‘Cause I feel blessed. This two week run we’re having is something else. One spectacular show after another. Everything from underground legends to rising newcomers to the top-of-the-pile vanguard. Considering the litany of great shows getting thrown at us this week — M83, Boris, Scratch Acid and Melt-Banana, just to name a few of our favorites — you might be surprised with our decision to pick Tera Melos for this week’s top spot. Or maybe not. We haven’t exactly kept our love for the Sacramento, California trio’s experimental spazz-pop and rock a secret. It might take a particular type of ear to appreciate the group’s complex and cacophonous math and jazz-infused music, but even the most diehard lover of traditional pop should be able to at least appreciate the way the group interlaces their frantic, off-kilter compositions with sun-kissed blasts of infectious melody. Music this convoluted rarely sounds this effortless and, well, pleasant. But as unique and inspired as their recorded music may be, the real treat is watching these three guys come together and pull it all off live. Don’t miss out.
