Atlanta noise mongers Whores. have announced that their search to replace departed bass player Steven Higginbottom is at an end. According to frontman Christian Lembach, Jake Schultz of metalcore stalwarts Norma Jean and ex-Every Time I Die has accepted the band’s offer and will take over permanent bass duties effective immediately.
“The band has been friends with Jake for a while,” Lembach says, “and when we were in the position to find a new bass player, he was the obvious choice. We have already played an Atlanta show with him, and that show was one of the best the band has ever played. That night the band really felt like one gigantic machine moving forward.”
Norma Jean fans fearful that Schultz may be signaling a possible defection from the band need not worry. Schultz has committed to playing in both bands, and all members have declared a willingness to work around his schedule to the mutual benefit of both groups.
As for Whores., they get to solidify their lineup with a seasoned veteran who will not only help anchor the band’s rhythm section, but who will also undoubtedly expand the band’s popular reach. And from the sound of things, the group stands ready to take full advantage.
“We are in the process of booking a fall Southeast tour, ” says Lembach, “and we plan on touring the East Coast, Midwest and West Coast early next year. Our EP [Ruiner] is posted on Bandcamp for download, and we are talking to several labels about a vinyl release. We also plan on getting back in the studio in the next few months to record a whole mess of new songs.”
