MP3 + VIDEO: The Electric Nature – “Return to Cloud Mountain”

Clocking in at nearly 35 minutes, the Electric Nature’s new three-song EP, Drugs in Space, is another expansive, adventurous flight of experimental drone-fueled fantasy from the mind of Michael Potter. It’s available as a name your own price download from his Bandcamp page so I highly suggest you grab it now and immerse yourself in his sprawling soundscapes.

The EPs second track, “Return to Cloud Nothing,” finds Potter at his most serene and sublime, wrapping beautiful bursts of feedback around warm synths and the steady strum of an acoustic guitar. With the song’s melodic core established, Potter is free to introduce successive layers — a bit of droning white noise here, some warped chanted vocals there — that ultimately coalesce into one of the Electric Nature’s most riveting compositions to date. It’s a song that virtually begs for a visual treatment and Matthew Sherling, Potter’s White Beard partner-in-crime, appears only too happy to oblige with an obtuse, bovine obsessed video that is worth a look, even if it unfolds at a glacial pace.
