A: The Color are a rock band in the classic sense; big riffs, searing leads, hammerhead percussion — all tied together by an engaging frontman who embraces this heavy-rock template with a complete lack of bashfulness or irony. The group also manages to layer in elements of ’90s alt-rock and flashes of vintage prog, but all of it is delivered unapologetically through a Zeppelinian prism. Check out this video from their performance Wednesday night at the Masquerade and you’ll start to get a glimpse into what I mean — the guitars sound big, the grooves are on lock and the requisite big stage swagger feels unforced and genuine. It may not always be my thing, but when these guys are on, it’s straight fire.
