I’m confused. Marietta rapper Perry Rodriguez, aka Perrion, is set to release his latest mixtape, Le Bourgeon, this Saturday. With so much time and effort invested in this project, you’d think he’d be pushing the new cuts like crazy and working to pump out a video for his bomb ass lead joint, “Seamless.” Instead, this week Perrion dropped a video for “G Shit (Heaven Sent),” a remix to Warren G taken off his Perception mixtape released last year. It’s all a bit of a headscratcher.
Odd marketing decisions aside, I can’t deny the track is dope and the video — shot, directed, and edited by Perrion and Tato — is appropriately filled with plenty of blunt rolling and the usual hip hop camera mugging. I suppose at this point in his career it’s all about getting his name out there and enticing people to listen to his music and one video is likely as good as another. So I guess you can consider this a primer for what’s to come. But, Perrion, if you’re reading this, next time hit us with some of that new shit. Deal?
