VIDEO: Queens of the Stone Age – “The Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died” (Live at Center Stage)

One of the many cool things about Monday night’s Queens of the Stone Age show was how it was divided into two almost opposite parts.

For the first part, you knew exactly what you were going to get. Tracks 1 through 14. The self-titled debut from start to finish. Of course there were a few unexpected moments—subtle tempo shifts, extended jams and left field improvisations—but if you were familiar with the album (as you damn well should be), you generally knew what was coming. And it was awesome.

The second part of the show, however, was more of a mystery. With the exception of “Little Sister” and (maybe) the former single, “Feel Good Hit of the Summer,” I doubt if I could have predicted any of the songs they played. And while it wasn’t a complete mindfuck to hear QOTSA play the moderately obscure, “The Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died,” that didn’t prevent it from being a crazy epic moment in a concert filled with epic craziness.
