VIDEO: Spirits and the Melchizedek Children – “WiteWich” (Live)

Spirits and the Melichizedek Children have had an outstanding 2011 having released one of the year’s most acclaimed local records with their haunting and hypnotic We Are Here to Save YOU! So when it came time for all of us participating in this year’s Atlanta Music Roundtable to decide on which band’s we wanted to perform at our year-end show at the Earl, the psych-gazers were at the top of our list. And to our elation, not only did the band sign on to perform, but, as an added bonus, they also agreed to perform their album in its entirety.

With Ryan Peoples of Oryx and Crake joining them on guitar, the band played a mesmerizing set, flushing out all the low-lying details and subtle nuances that made We Are Here to Save YOU! such a captivating listen. Here is a video of the group churning out an upbeat version of one of the record’s few steady rockers, “WiteWich.” It’s SATMC at their most direct and immediate but there is still plenty of echo and reverb to drag you into the swirling void.
