So many great shows this week.
And if you know me or if you’ve spent enough time reading this blog, you’ll know that on most any other occasion, I’d have the inimitable, otherwordly Swans leading this list. So what gives? Well, as it turns out, I’m a man who harbors the occasional regret. I never took the chance to see the Afghan Whigs their first time around and the grave feeling of opportunity missed has lingered far longer that I ever would’ve expected. So here it is, maybe my one and final time to reach back into that sensual smoke and moping misery that made Greg Dulli and company so compelling in the early-to-mid ’90s. Eleven years is a long time to be away from anything, but somehow this regrouping feels natural, inevitable. The Afghan Whigs have never been a lifelong love affair, but a band I’ve obsessed over in small spurts. And now feels like the perfect time for a heated fling.
