Fifteen ATL Records to Listen for in January

I normally begin these posts highlighting upcoming local releases by taking a look back and discussing some of the records that came out the month before. But seeing as we’ve just crossed over into 2012, I think we should avert our eyes from 2011 and march relentless forward into the new year. And if January’s crop of releases is any indication of what to expect, it appears that we’re going to be in for an extremely productive and fruitful year in local music. There’s a slew of great stuff to wade through here, both from established Atlanta veterans and newcomers alike; it’s certainly more than enough to keep your ears alert and busy for the next month. You never know when 2012′s first great local record is going to turn up (although on paper the new 4-IZE mixtape coming out on Thursday looks like a sure bet), but one thing is definitely for sure—you’ll never find it if you aren’t out there listening. So you can either let other people do the searching and dictate to you what’s worth it and what’s not or you can start scouring the Internet for new music and discover it all for yourself. I know what I’m going to do. Happy hunting, everyone.
