2012 has been a quiet year for Book Club, which is somewhat of a surprise given how much noise the band managed to make with their mesmerizing 2011 debut, Ghost. But now with a new single just released and a new EP lurking on the horizon, the local indie folk outfit appear ready to captivate audiences once again with their beautiful, haunting musings. The band’s sophomore effort, the five-song Shapes On the Water, is due out November 13 and will be available for free for anyone who signs up for the group’s mailing list. Meanwhile, the EPs lead single, “Oh! You Lied,” premiered yesterday on CMJ, and it finds the band supplanting some of their classic brooding folk in exchange for a bit of a country western swing. It’s playful yet elegant, and a perfect way to start off a gorgeous Thursday morning in Atlanta.
Book Club will celebrate the release of Shapes On the Water on Saturday, November 17 at the Earl. Supporting them will be Blake Rainey & His Demons and Jeremy Ray. Doors open at 9pm. Admission TBA.
