MP3: Cloudeater + Wale – “Faces”

Cloudeater + Wale - "Faces"

Courtesy of Life and Times we have the premiere of a new collaborative track between local post-industrial and alt-rock aficicandos Cloudeater and rapper Wale. The track is called “Faces” and it features a defiant-sounding Wale letting his verses fly over a backdrop of ambient synths, fidgety guitars, rattling drums and buzzing electronics. Cloudeater frontman Sam Dew handles the hook and, for me, it’s the element that ties everything together and gives the song a much needed tinge of poetic melancholy. The result is an atmosphere that is brash and contentious without being hostile. Download the track below.

This is not the first time the two parties have worked with one another; their most notable collaboration took place when Wale reworked the track “Sabotage” (with R&B crooner Lloyd handling the chorus) from Cloudeater’s 2010 EP Greatest Tragedy.

Cloudeater will perform on Saturday, June 23 at 529. Asheville-based RBTS Win are also scheduled to play along with fellow locals Deku and Rekchampa (late night set). Doors open at 9pm. $8 gets you in.
