Is it weird that I sometimes find myself imagining some sort of revelatory moment where everyone finally figures out what a gifted songwriter Damon Moon is? I mean, seriously, what’s the deal Atlanta? Are you going to start showing this guy some love or what? Because for all of our love of psychedelic rock and dusty folk, nobody in this town does howling guitars and haunted Americana quite like Moon and his ever revolving cast of Whispering Drifters.
Case in point is “Loose Ends,” the second single from his upcoming full-length, Lungs Dirt & Dreams, due out February 21st via Adair Park Recordings. It’s Moon at his most lonely and isolated, his whisper-quiet vocals floating across a soft bed of sparkling guitars. It’s hypnotic and heady, but any trance you’re lulled into is soon broken by the swell and swoon of the song’s makeshift chorus. It’s a simple dynamic, but an emotionally effective one. Check it out below.
