Palaces are a ferociously aggressive and noisy trio that like to explore the darker and more abrasive side of metal and hardcore. I was introduced to them by their drummer, Jonathon Balsamo, who also mans the kit for Latest Disgrace faves Sorry No Ferrari (so you know their potential for extreme shredding and dizzying shifts in pacing and time signatures are high). The band recently unveiled their debut full-length, Tarnish, on their Bandcamp page, and while its eight tracks for the most part kick, claw and scream over pummeling riffs and flailing hardcore grooves, there are also some melodic breakdowns and psychedelic passages that act as calming agents for the record’s otherwise unbridled fury. Give a listen to first single, “Mirrors,” and then make sure to catch them tonight when they celebrate the vinyl release of Tarnish at 529. Details are below.
Palaces will celebrate the release of Tarnish tonight at 529 when they play in support of Stone Mountain Freeway. Also performing will be Halmos and Iron Whip. Doors open at 9pm. $5 gets you in.
