It’s been a solid week since I’ve had the opportunity to post anything on the blog, and in my little forced sabbatical there’s been a deluge of killer new Atlanta music. One of my favorite cuts to come across my speakers has been the first single from stoner metal ruffians Demonaut. Pulled from their self-titled debut EP, “Falling Into Hell” is all gritty classic metal riffage and barked vocals backed by a lumbering rhythm section that shows some flashes of chops, but in the end is content to focus its energy on driving the pummeling machine forward. There’s no finesse here, no subtleties; just a corpulent sludge attack with a hint of menacing blues lurking in the shadows. Crank this one up to 11.
Demonaut will celebrate the release of their self-titled debut on Saturday, August 11 at the Basement. Supporting them will be heavy hitters Halmos, Blasted Goat and Fire Giant. Doors open at 9pm. Admission is $5.
