One of my more eagerly anticipated releases for this year is a split 7″ from stoner doom trio Order of the Owl and psych-gazers Spirits and the Melchizedek Children. The upcoming record, which comes courtesy of new local label The Great Big, is due out August 4 and features one track from each group.
We’ve already been made privy to Order of the Owl’s offering—the thunderous “Cocaine Super Demon” was featured on the blog back in January, although the version that appears on the record clearly benefits from some additional studio tweaks and production work. And now we get our first listen of “Look,” the sprawling and majestic new single from SATMC which, in addition to leaving us with one of the group’s most dynamic and compelling cuts to date, also provides us with a welcome peak into what the band has in store for their forthcoming full length, currently in the works. Give it a listen below.
Spirits and the Melchizedek Children and Order of the Owl will celebrate the release of their split 7″ on Saturday, August 4 at 529. Fellow locals Nigredo open the show. Doors open at 9pm. Admission is $7. Fans call also purchase a Village Pass which provides entry to both this show and the N.E.C. release show at the Earl for a mere $10.
