Eleven ATL Records to Listen for in April

Lazer/Wulf - There Was a Hole HereIs it me or did March seem to drag on and on? Maybe it was the endless barrage of communiques for SXSW or the parade of bands that used the Austin-based music festival as an excuse to head out on tour, but March just seemed to be stuffed with news, events and happenings for local music. We did our best to cover as much of it as we could, but all month it seemed like things kept falling through the cracks.

Which is a little odd considering that weren’t all that many ATL records released last month. I mean, BOSCO kicked off the month on a strong note with their excellent three-song EP, Let Go of Me, and the new Gentleman Jesse record certainly impressed the critics. But if weren’t for the new Jeffrey Bützer and the Bicycle Eaters 7″ that dropped at the last hour, March still would have felt awfully sparse.

In that regard, April looks a lot more promising. Already we’ve been handed one excellent release to dig into—courtesy of noise-pop outfit deadCAT—and if you’re a fan of heavy music you have to be thrilled at the prospect of hearing new music from Irreversible and Lazer/Wulf within a two-week span of each other. Add in debut full-lengths from the District Attorneys and the Mad Flight, and new singles from the N.E.C. and Faun and Pan Flute, and we appear to have the makings of what could be one of the best local music months of the year.
