You want to know my big takeaway from this video? It would be impossible for me to ever be sad in Paris. That’s it. I mean, it’s PARIS, for god’s sake. Even when it’s draped in rainy mist and framed in stark, grainy black and white, all that old world architecture and sidewalk cafes can only ever be romantic and alluring. There’s no way around it. I could literally be strolling through the Champs-Élysées and stumble across a box of dead kittens and all I would think about is HOW GODDAMN CHARMING THE PLACE IS. Is that a little shallow and trite? Probably. Do I care? Nope. Not helping my little bout of French fetishization is the monochromatic approach Book Club utilizes here, which only serves to make one of the world’s classic cities seem that much more timeless and poignant. It’s like at any moment Gertrude Stein is going to step into frame and walk across the screen. Pretty cool, right? Yeah, I thought so too.
