Let’s hear it for unexpected pleasures. Well over a year since the release of their sophomore record, Go, and Sell All of Your Things, Damion Suomi and the Minor Prophets have released a new video for the Charled Bukowski-inspired “A Dog From Hell (And His Good Advice).” It’s one of my favorite tracks on the album, a riveting folk-rock anthem that starts as a stark, plaintive dirge before transitioning into a boisterous, fist-pumping singalong. The video, produced by Derek Suomi, follows a similar pattern, opening with the band members looking down and depressed at a community college-sponsored motivational lecture before winding up surrounded by beer swilling fans in a raucous barroom jam. Check it out below.
Damion Suomi & the Minor Prophets will perform tomorrow night, September 11, at the Earl. Supporting them will be Jeremy Aggers and Truckstop Darlin’. Doors open at 8:30pm. $7 gets you in.
