VIDEO: Damon Moon and the Whispering Drifters – “Loose Ends”

I love sad music. Maybe it’s me, but the flood of emotions welling up in your chest and the dark clouds billowing in your mind beats any drug I can think of. Like if I went over to L5P and some dude asked me if I wanted to score some heroin and I was like “Nah man, what else you got?” and he busted out a vial of Morrissey’s tears and told me it would make me feel whatever it was he felt when when he wrote “I Know It’s Over,” I would buy LIKE TEN VIALS OF THAT SHIT and give myself over to the pain. Ah, the beautiful, wonderful pain. Damon Moon knows what I’m talking about. Dude is like a sad song ninja. And from what I’ve heard of he and the Whispering Drifters’ upcoming album, Lungs, Dirt & Dreams, that joint is going to be like some kind of treatise on existential suffering and heartbreak. You WILL cry.

I mean, just watch this new video for the album’s second single “Loose Ends.” Look at the portrait of loneliness and isolation that’s being painted. I don’t know what’s going on with all those sketches Moon the protagonist is tearing down and trying to piece back together, but it’s clear that he’s wounded, angry and alone. Who or what is he lashing out doesn’t really matter all that much. What does matter is that he’s emotionally devastated. See all those pots and plates he trashes in the kitchen out of abject frustration? That’s him saying LIFE HURTS AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE. I’d pay a lot of money to sink deep into that well of sadness. And by a lot I mean $10 or whatever the album costs when it comes out next month. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the hurt.
