Have you ever noticed how much steam Royal Thunder frontwoman Mlny Parsonz gathers as she progresses through each one of their songs? I love the way she likes to begin from a low lull, a soft croon that barely rises above the roaring din of the band’s sludgy Southern metal grooves, before erupting into a guttural growl that eventually crescendos into an ear-splitting banshee wail. It all makes for some dramatic musical moments, and whatever you may think of her voice, there’s no denying the woman has range and a talent for timing her progressions to generate the most impact possible.
If you want to hear what I mean, take a look at this exclusive acoustic rendition of “Black Water Vision,” a track taken from the band’s new album, CVI. Shot by Google Play during this year’s SXSW conference, it’s an all-around solid display from the band, but the focus is clearly on Parsonz who delivers yet another spine-tingling performance. Watch it above.
The Google Play link also offers a free MP3 download, so make sure you don’t pass it up.
