MP3: deadCAT – “Glossolalia”

deadCAT - Transientualism

If deadCAT has maintained one consistent trait throughout their six EPs, it’s their willingness to explore and evolve with every release. The adventurous trio has flirted with everything from ambient chillwave to abrasive noise-pop, all the while keeping a propulsive underbelly that plays as well in the clamorous din of a smoky club as it does in the solace of your bedroom. “Glossolalia” is the first single and opening cut from the band’s upcoming full length, Transientualism, and once again it finds the group traversing the outer edges with chaotic rhythms and clattering percussion colliding against gauzy vocals and a rippling bass line. It’s delightfully disorienting stuff that hints at—but never fully embraces—pop, funk, prog and experimental noise. There’s really no hook to speak of, unless you count the air raid siren synth that permeates the track, but the more you let this one soak in, the more irresistible it becomes.

Transientualism is due out November 26 via Psych Army Intergalactic.
