MP3: Jungol – “Leper”

As much as I have enjoyed watching Jungol branch out into other mediums and put together their mysterious and visually spellbinding Go Softly short film project, it’s great to finally hear a full track of new music free from any extraneous attachments. “Leper” is the first track to be revealed from the band’s upcoming, yet-to-be-titled full length, and, no surprise, it finds the group embracing the ambient beats, swelling synths and pulsing electronics that help populate the Go Softly soundtrack, as well as the work of founding member Graham Yoder’s side project Dark Room. But much like the band’s previous, more traditionally rock-based work, there is a sound structure in place, one that effortlessly leads the listener from the song’s atmospheric opening to it’s sonorous end. The hooks are more subtle, you have to dig a little deeper to get at them, but the payoff is worth the patience. Give it a listen below and then head over to Jungol’s website to grab the free download.

Jungol will celebrate the release of the “Leper” single and the DVD of their Go Softly short film project tonight at the Earl. Supporting them will be Sealions and Hail the Titans. Doors open at 9pm. $8 gets you in.
