Top 10 ATL Videos of 2012

Apologies for these much-too-late lists that are about to get splashed on the pages of this blog, but I feel like my time in 2012 got cutoff before I could make my closing statements and wrap my head around what transpired last year. I’ll try to keep things brief and tidy as possible, but I’ve been known to let my words get away from me some, and there’s considerable ground to cover. Hopefully you’ll indulge me.

With that let’s turn our attention to local videos, which seemed to be in scarcer supply than they were in 2011. And yet, what made it out of production this year was in many cases some of the most engaging and entertaining footage I’ve seen in quite some time. If you’re a regular follower of the Atlanta music scene, you’ll no doubt recognize some of the names on this list—Video Rahim, Lee Tesche, SupaDope, perhaps—but, as you might expect, every year brings fresh faces and new talents.

It’s always interesting to me to see which new artists will step up and which established vets will continue to push forward and raise the stakes. (Side note: of the ten bands featured here, three are repeating after making last year’s list.) And while great music and great videos don’t necessarily go hand in hand, I don’t find it a coincidence that the videos you’ll see here just happen to accompany some of the most memorable songs of the year, written by some of the best artists this city has to offer. It’s all about ambition, hard work and perseverance, folks. Fuck luck.

And so take a deep breath, wipe the crust from your eyes, and hit the next page to watch the best ATL videos of 2012. Enjoy.
