PREMIERE: Pillage & Plunder – “Moocow”

Pillage and Plunder

Pillage & Plunder are having a very good, very busy week. On Tuesday, the eclectic art-rock trio released their first full length, The Show Must Go Wrong, as well as their first video for the album track “I Will Drink the Ocean When I Go There.” Yesterday, the band was named one of 5 Atlanta bands you need to now about by Atlanta Music Guide. And tomorrow, they will celebrate the release of their new record with a headlining performance at the Drunken Unicorn. But today, well, there’s us. Because we’ve got the premiere of yet another track off the record, the dynamic, shape-shifting “Moocow.”

Anyone who’s heard Pillage & Plunder will pretty much tell you to expect the unexpected. Because there’s quite a lot that’s fair game: punk, jazz, soul, swing, math rock, prog, and funk music all get chewed up, swallowed and spit back out in new and interesting ways. “Moocow” is no different. Dig those groove-accenting handclaps during the disco-like verses, which themselves give way to a flurry of frenetic guitar spasms. Check out Gokul Parasuram’s velvety ’70s lounge vocals or the cabaret theatrics of the song’s stylistic leaping. There’s a lot going on, but it’s all so fun and spirited, it’s easy to allow the band their indulgences. Music this disdainful of delineations requires some serious chops, and it’s clear P&P have no qualms about flashing theirs. Listen below.

The Show Must Go Wrong is available now via Bandcamp.
