The Difference Machine Unveil New Single, Announce Tour Dates with Homeboy Sandman

The Difference Machine

Ever since last year’s release of their debut LP, The Psychedelic Sounds of the Difference Machine, local hip-hop duo the Difference Machine have made it a point to push their artistry forward and seek new avenues for creative expression. Whether it’s working on a new music video or collaborating with some of the city’s best producers to release a limited-edition remix cassette of their debut for Record Store Day, it seems the two are always hard at work on a new project.

In keeping with their prodigious work ethic, the group announced yesterday that they will release a new EP next month and unveiled the record’s first single and title track, “Clocks.” It’s a DM track through and through with Conspiracy’s clamoring beats and abstract production providing a hazy backdrop for DT’s incisive rhymes. The pair may be making a name as an experimental rap outfit—as they should be—but the group’s strongest moments arrive when they combine their mind-bending psychedelic tendencies with biting social commentary. So as much as you might want to spark one up and get lost in the track’s murky vibe, make sure you pay attention when DT starts dropping the lyrical hammers: “I think you’re too busy dancing / While you was doing that, I was glancing, like, who is that? / In that mansion and what is that he’s commanding? / While you cut him slack, he’s rolling your budget back / A couple of cribs foreclosed by the cul-de-sac / Tidal wave, you can’t hold it back / And every day folks lose their lives over that.” It’s not his best verse by any means, but it’s still fucking FIRE. Give it a listen below.

In addition to the new music news, the Difference Machine also announced that they will be hitting the road this June for a series of dates with Queens, New York rapper Homeboy Sandman. The two-week run kicks off on June 4 in Nashville and runs up and down the East Coast and into parts of the Midwest before closing things out with a June 17 hometown performance at 529.
