VIDEO: Of the Vine – “In Event of Moon Disaster”

Of the Vine - In Event of Moon DisasterThere’s still no word on when the new Of the Vine record will be released, but at least we’ve got this little gem to tide us over until the band sorts out the details. Directed by guitarist Samuel Laubscher, the all black and white video encompasses much of what makes “In Event of Moon Disaster” so compelling—there’s nothing in the way of narrative and the action that’s present is drawn-out and exaggerated to heighten the dramatic tension. If the power of the track lies in the way it elegantly tiptoes a tightrope while the threat of impending explosion continues to mount in the surrounding air, then it makes cathartic sense for the video to show the band members throwing themselves around in slow-motion bursts of ecstatic energy. At first pass, it’s not the reaction you’d expect from such a stately song, but listen long enough and you might realize it’s exactly the reaction you want. Watch/listen below.

“In Event of Moon Disaster” is available as a limited-edition, hand silk-screened CD or as a name your price download via Bandcamp.

Of the Vine perform tonight at Mammal Gallery in support of Righteous Love and Beneath Acacia. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $5.
