VIDEO: Spirits and the Melchizedek Children – “Novo Somnia” (indieATL Session)

Spirits and the Melchizedek Children - Novo SomniaI used to do a much better job of keeping up with all the great work that indieATL does, but the digital arts initiative has grown so prolific and has their hands in so many projects that I’ve found it impossible to keep up. Still, at the very least I want to do my best to highlight those performances that speak to me the most and damn if this latest session from psych-gazers Spirits and the Melchizedek Children doesn’t fit the bill. The local six-piece are wrapping up work on their upcoming sophomore full length, So Happy, It’s Sad, and recently took the opportunity to unveil one of the album’s songs a new standalone single, “Novo Somnia,” to the world. It’s a gorgeous track, a graceful slow burner built around Jason Elliot’s delicate vocals and gossamer guitars that eventually boil over into a tempestuous fit of shoegaze agitation. SATMC’s music has always emitted a sense of starry-eyed wonder and even in this calm and retrained performance “Novo Somnia” glows with an otherworldly shimmer. Listen/watch below.

So Happy, It’s Sad is due out March 4.
